At the Centre for Tropical and Travel Medicine, you’ve come to the right place. With around 16,000 consultations every year, we are one of the largest competence centres for travel medicine and vaccination advice in Switzerland.
To provide you with the best possible care, we welcome you by appointment. This keeps waiting times short and allows us to tailor our advice precisely to your needs.
Pre-travel advice
In our travel medicine consultations, we discuss the most important health precautions for your trip: from mosquito protection and malaria prophylaxis to recommended and required vaccinations. We consider your destination, health and travel circumstances and provide advice in line with the latest international and country-specific recommendations. All vaccinations can be administered at our centre.
Vaccination advice
Whether pneumococcus, herpes zoster, TBE, influenza, or a booster for tetanus and pertussis – we advise you on all vaccinations included in the Swiss Vaccination Schedule and administer them on site. As part of our vaccination review, we assess your vaccination history against current recommendations and provide a clear overview of any vaccinations that are due, overdue, or already covered.
Unwell after travelling
If you return from a trip with symptoms of illness, we are here to help – whether for the investigation of fever, persistent diarrhoea, skin problems or a suspected tropical infection such as malaria or dengue. Through our reference laboratory for human parasitic diseases, we can diagnose even very rare conditions quickly and reliably, so that effective treatment can be started without delay.
For medical staff
We offer consiliary expertise to healthcare professionals – on questions of differential diagnosis, the investigation and treatment of tropical and parasitic diseases, on specialist travel medicine queries, and on the ordering of antiparasitic medications. Together with the Diagnostic Centre of Swiss TPH, we serve as the National Reference Centre for Malaria in Switzerland.
How to find us
The Centre for Tropical and Travel Medicine is located in the 'Turmhaus' building at Aeschenplatz 2. It is just a few minutes’ walk from the Basel SBB train station. Aeschenplatz is easily reached by tram or bus. There are parking spaces available in the nearby public car parks; bicycle stands are located next to the building.

What our patients say about us
Dengue fever
Dengue fever is spreading rapidly, including in Switzerland. Cases have already been reported in Ticino, Basel and Geneva. The disease is transmitted by mosquitoes, primarily the tiger mosquito.
