Routine vaccinations and advice

For a systematic approach to vaccination – we know what you need.

Vaccinations are the most effective way of protecting against many infectious diseases. However, most people do not know exactly which vaccinations they have had, which are missing, and which are overdue. We will take the time to record your vaccination status, compare it with the current recommendations of the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH/BAG) and the Federal Commission for Vaccination (EKIF), and put together a personalised vaccination plan for you.

When were you last vaccinated against tetanus? Are you protected against pneumococcus? Do you need a TBE booster? Most adults would struggle to answer these questions off the top of their heads – recommendations change, new vaccinations are introduced, and existing schedules are updated.

During our vaccination record review, we will walk you through your vaccination record step by step, compare it with the current Swiss recommendations and compile a personalised overview for you. You will leave our practice with a clear understanding of your current and long-term needs.

Vaccinations we offer

We offer all the vaccinations included in the Swiss Vaccination Schedule – from primary immunisation in childhood to the supplementary vaccinations recommended in adulthood.

Recommended vaccinations for adults

Certain vaccinations become particularly important in adulthood and are often overlooked in everyday life.

  • Herpes zoster (shingles) – recommended from the age of 65; this vaccination prevents a painful and protracted illness.
  • Influenza (flu) – annual vaccination for people aged 65 and over, as well as for at-risk groups and their close contacts.
  • Pneumococcus – protection against severe pneumonia. Recommended from the age of 65, and for people with chronic conditions.
  • Tetanus / diphtheria / pertussis – a booster is recommended every 20 years and every 10 years from the age of 65.
  • Tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) – the whole of Switzerland is now considered a risk area (with the exception of Ticino). Recommended from the age of 3.

Vaccinations for children and adolescents

We carry out the full primary immunisation programme as set out in the Swiss Vaccination Schedule, and we have extensive experience in treating young children. This includes vaccinations for measles, mumps, rubella, diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, polio, hepatitis B, meningitis and chickenpox.

For adolescents and young adults, the HPV vaccination is also recommended. Under the cantonal programmes in Basel-Stadt and Basel-Landschaft, this vaccination is free of charge and exempt from the deductible for individuals up to their 27th birthday residing in these cantons. → For further details, please refer to the Swiss Vaccination Schedule

All vaccinations at our centre are only administered after a prior consultation. To enable us to assess your vaccination status fully, please bring the following:

  • your vaccination record (older or incomplete records are also helpful)
  • a list of any regular medications you take
  • information on any allergies

Please note that we can only carry out follow-up or booster vaccinations after a consultation if the previous vaccination was not administered at our centre or was given several years ago.

Vaccinations and consultations are billed according to TARDOC and are payable on site on the day of your appointment. Vaccinations in line with the Swiss Vaccination Schedule are generally covered by compulsory health insurance once your deductible has been met. The HPV vaccination is free of charge and exempt from the deductible in Basel-Stadt and Basel-Landschaft for individuals up to the age of 27.
