Travel vaccinations

In line with the latest international recommendations.

Depending on your destination, the nature of your journey, and your personal circumstances, different vaccinations may be advisable or required. In our travel medicine consultation, we review your existing vaccination protection and add the vaccinations relevant for your trip. As risk situations, outbreaks, and recommendations are constantly changing worldwide, we keep our knowledge continuously up to date and advise you based on the most current international guidelines and country-specific recommendations.

When to book your consultation

Some vaccinations require several doses to provide sufficient protection. We therefore recommend booking a consultation 4 to 8 weeks before departure, so that all necessary vaccinations can be completed before you leave.

A travel medicine consultation is also worthwhile at shorter notice: many vaccinations take effect within a few days, booster vaccinations quickly restore sufficient protection, and accelerated vaccination schedules are available for several indications.

We offer all common travel vaccinations, including:

  • Dengue – recently made available; recommended for certain people who had a previous dengue infection.

  • Hepatitis A – the most important travel vaccination worldwide, recommended for most trips outside Western Europe and North America.

  • Japanese encephalitis – for travel to rural areas of Asia, depending on season and length of stay.

  • Typhoid – recommended for travel to regions with limited hygiene standards, particularly India and South Asia, or for longer stays.

  • Rabies – recommended for most trips to (sub)tropical regions.

  • Yellow fever – required for entry into many countries in Africa and South America; we are an officially recognised yellow fever vaccination centre.

In addition, we check whether boosters of your Swiss vaccinations (e.g. tetanus, polio, measles, hepatitis B) are needed for your trip.

A travel medicine consultation covers much more than just vaccinations. Depending on your destination and personal situation, we will also address the following topics:

  • Malaria prophylaxis and mosquito protection
  • High-altitude medicine
  • A travel first-aid kit and the prevention of traveller's diarrhoea
  • Special considerations for travelling with children, during pregnancy, with chronic conditions or while taking long-term medication

  • Your vaccination record (even incomplete or older records are helpful).
  • A list of any regular medications you take.
  • Information about any allergies.
  • Destination(s), travel dates and planned type of trip (e.g. round trip, trekking or volunteer work).

Travel vaccinations and their administration are billed according to TARDOC and payable on site on the day of the appointment. They are generally not covered by compulsory health insurance; some supplementary insurance policies reimburse the costs in full or in part.

Full details on costs, payment, cost coverage, and cancellation of appointments can be found on our → Book an appointment page.
